MEREDITH BROWN KEPHART
Meredith Kephart is an artist and designer based in Los Angeles. Much of her current practice focuses on painting with paper: she assembles torn transparent pieces, often painted or dyed, onto canvas or paper. What is a slow, meditative, multi-step process frequently expresses itself in the final work as rhythmic and lyrical, revealing subtle patterns and textures that appear through overlapping forms.
The work explores the tension between fragility and structure: delicate passages embedded within larger fields, where pattern, seam lines, and negative space create a quiet architectural framework. Suggestive forms rarely fully resolve. Dreamlike and color-driven, her compositions evoke a sense of motion and layered memory: fragmented, reassembled, and held together through surface.
Born and raised in Texas, Meredith received her BA from Harvard, followed by a degree in fashion design from FIT. In addition to creating fine art, she is also the founder and creative director of Venable Moore, a textiles, wallpaper, and homewares studio.
